Student Government

Attention Jessup Graduates:

Hello, and congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

Amidst all of the other graduation information heading your way, Student Government would like to inform you of an exciting opportunity in which you, as a graduating senior, can participate! As is the tradition at many universities, the graduating seniors at Jessup coordinate each year to give a gift to the school as a symbol and physical representation of gratitude and legacy. This year, the Senior Representative and a committee of other seniors have chosen a piece of artwork representing the journey of Jessup as the gift. The artwork was professionally designed, and depicts specific and meaningful images of Jessup from 1939 until today. This distinctive piece will be displayed in the new cafeteria and will have a plaque showing that it was given by the Senior Class of 2012. We are so excited to give the school this artwork, celebrating WJU’s development and continued growth in excellence!

In order to purchase the artwork on behalf of the seniors, we need to raise $1,000 from the 2012 senior class. We invite you to participate in leaving this gift to the school by giving to the Senior Gift fund. To contribute, you can drop off cash or check to the front desk in the Reeve-Knight Administration Building. Checks can be made payable to William Jessup University, designated for the senior gift.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your Senior Representative, Cassie Davidson, or any of the Student Government Officers: Spencer Jackson, Ben Lokteff and Ashley Rynberk. Thank you in advance for helping to show the 2012 class’ gratitude for our experience and excitement for the continuing development of WJU!

 Sincerely,

Student Government

Security Forum Recap

For those not able to attend the Security Forum last Thursday, here are some highlights!

From the Department of Campus Safety:

  • Program Security’s number into your phone… NOW: 916-521-0776

    • You don’t want to wait to add their number until you need it
  • If, for any reason, you feel unsafe during the day or at night, call Security. They are available 24/7 for issues of campus safety. This is for both males and females.

  • Update: Last semester there was a slew of vehicle break-ins across the Rocklin area. These are still occurring, however WJU has not had a problem since new Security initiatives have been implemented.

Intent and Expectations for Light Surge

Over the course of the Fall 2011 semester, the WJU Student Government has received various requests, mostly from upperclassmen, to advocate for a student-sponsored dance—an activity that would be the first of its kind for WJU. As Student Government solicited input, feedback from the student body at large overwhelmingly supported the idea of a black light dance—an opportunity for the student body to express themselves through dance to further our community bonds and express our love and joy for the life God has given us. Since the primary role of Student Government is to advocate on behalf of the student body, the decision was made to move forward on this proposal.

Since Student Government has accepted responsibility for the planning of promotion and oversight for this event, we ask in return that you, as the student body, accept responsibility for your own conduct at this event. As a Christ-centered university, William Jessup does not promote sexually suggestive or sinful activity or pastime. We intend for this dance to be a fun social event and time of celebration for all who attend. It is expected and required that all participants respect William Jessup’s dress policy of modesty, and refrain from sexual or aggressive physical contact. If any of these expectations are not met, the individual or individuals responsible may be asked to either stop or leave the event, at the discretion of Student Government or its appointees. We ask that you would covenant with us to keep each other accountable in order to make this a fun, positive, and Christ-honoring event for all who attend.

Sincerely,

Your Student Government
